Update 4/8/2020

Dear Porter Family:

First, I want to congratulate the following;

Jill White – District Teacher of the Year

 Christina Jones – Elementary Teacher of the Year

 Jentri Guinn will be the HS/JH Principal for the 2020-2021 school year.

 Lesa Armstrong will be retiring at the end of the school year. Thank you for your many years of service.

This week marks the beginning of a new and unexpected experience for Oklahoma students, teachers and school staff. Although we did not anticipate ending the year this way, I am proud of the distance learning plan that has been developed to allow students to learn from home. The next few weeks won’t be easy. There will be mistakes, problems, and concerns along the way. We are doing our best to provide work to keep our students moving forward. We know this change is difficult, and there is a sadness about missing or delaying special events and activities. During this time, students and their families can count on Porter Schools to support them, both academically and emotionally.

While this health crisis has presented many challenges, it also has given us opportunities to help one another. The district’s child nutrition team has served over 1100 breakfast and lunches and over 1000 dinners and snacks to local children. Mrs. Diann has continued to hand out the back-pack program. Additionally, our staff completed the massive task of developing a distance learning plan in just a matter of days. I commend and thank all school employees for their hard work and commitment. Porter has an incredible team. Please do not hesitate to contact your school administrators about concerns.

We are fortunate to serve a community that values public education and understands that flexibility is necessary to meet the needs of students. A school is not a building; it is a family of caring, knowledgeable professionals making a difference for students every day. Our district is home to the best, and we will finish the school year strong.

Thank you for your support of Porter.
