Spelling Bee

Porter School held their local Spelling Bee January 23rd for students in grades 1st – 8th.  There were two students representing from each class to be narrowed down to two final winners and 3 alternates.  These five students are being taken to lunch on Friday January 26th with Mr. Sherwood and Paige Pratt. The two winners; one from the elementary level and one from the Junior High level will go on to compete in the Eastern Oklahoma State Spelling Bee.  The elementary winner was Neil Guinn and alternate Billy Dickey and the Junior High winner was Drew Taylor with alternates Raevin Milne and Jackson Hardin.

The 9th Annual Eastern Oklahoma State Spelling Bee will take place Friday, April 6th at the Muskogee Civic Center.  Regristration begins at 4:30 p.m. with the competition beginning at 6:30 p.m. A hospitality room will be available at 4:30 for all contestants, family members and special guests to enjoy.  

Prizes will include engraved medals for each contestant, 2018 commemorative t-shirts, and trophies for first, second and third place winners.  The champion of this years contest will recieve  $1000.00 for his or her school and a $500.00 cash prize.  $500.00 will be awarded to the second place winners school and a $250.00 cash prize.  Third place will receive $250.00 for their school and a $100.00 cash prize.  The grand prize winner will receive two club seating tickets to the April 11th Oklahoma City Thunder game at the Cox Convention Center in OKC.  

All student contestants will have an opportunity to win various prizes that will be given away by a randon drawing during the first intermission.
